Plot

Maa (2025) is a mythological horror film set in the same eerie universe as Shaitaan (2024). The story follows Anita (Kajol), a resilient yet grieving woman, whose life takes a terrifying turn after her husband Raghav (Indraneil Sengupta) dies under mysterious, supernatural circumstances. Seeking closure and answers, Anita travels with her teenage daughter Riya (Kherin Sharma) to Raghav's ancestral village, nestled deep in the forests of Maharashtra. The villagers receive them coldly, their eyes filled with fear and silence thick with secrets. It is here that Anita learns about an ancient demonic curse tied to her husband’s bloodline — a mythological entity worshipped and feared as “Maa Rakshini”, once a protector turned vengeful after being wronged centuries ago. Guided by the skeptical yet sympathetic village priest Devendra (Ronit Roy), Anita uncovers fragments of dark rituals, buried sins, and the true reason behind her husband's death — he had tried to break the cycle of offerings that kept the demon pacified. As the curse begins to target Riya, Anita must confront her deepest fears and unravel the sinister secrets of the past. She must choose whether to fight the ancient evil using her willpower and maternal instinct, or surrender to the same fate that consumed her husband. Blending Indian mythology with psychological horror, Maa is a chilling exploration of love, sacrifice, and the darkness that lies in tradition twisted by fear.
