Plot

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Budapest, the film follows Sherdil Singh Sidhu (played by Diljit Dosanjh), an eccentric yet lovable private detective known more for his unconventional methods than his professionalism. When Pankaj Bhatti, an Indian-origin telecom tycoon, is found dead under suspicious circumstances in his Budapest mansion, the Hungarian police suspect a hate crime. However, Bhatti’s daughter Ananya (played by Banita Sandhu) isn't convinced and insists on hiring Sherdil to get to the bottom of it. Sherdil arrives in Budapest with his tech-savvy but skeptical assistant Natasha (played by Diana Penty) and quickly realizes that things are not what they seem. Every member of Bhatti’s wealthy and dysfunctional family seems to have a motive — from his estranged wife Neelam (Ratna Pathak Shah), to his greedy brother-in-law Rajeev (Chunky Panday), and even his trusted business associate Mr. Khosla (Boman Irani). As Sherdil navigates the luxurious yet deceptive world of European high society, he uncovers layers of secrets: a crumbling telecom empire, offshore accounts, a secret lover, and a mysterious painting that may hold the key to everything. With humor, charm, and a good dose of Punjabi wit, Sherdil pieces together the mystery, dodging red herrings and unexpected twists. The final revelation shocks everyone — the murder wasn’t about money or inheritance but a revenge decades in the making, tied to a betrayal during Bhatti’s early career in India. Sherdil solves the case in typical dramatic fashion — with a public confrontation at a family gala — and earns newfound respect not just from the Bhatti family, but also from Natasha, who starts seeing him in a new light.
